Charles Dyer Reasoner was born on February 5, 1922 in Ingham County, Michigan. He received his education in the Holt School District and Everett High School, and was drafted during WWII into the United States Army on October 22, 1942 at the age of 20. Upon his draft, he enlisted with the 32nd Division, 126th Infantry.

Mr. Reasoner was sent to Camp Wolters, Texas for training. In April of 1943 he was sent overseas to join the Red Arrow Division, stationed at Leyte, Philippine, which was the eighth larges of the Philippine Islands,

The United States established civil authority over Leyte in 1901. During WWII, the northeast coast was the scene of the first major landings of allied forces in the Philippines under General Douglas MacArthur, Leyte Gulf, just east of the island, was also the scene of a great naval battle (October 22-27, 1944) between the American and Japanese fleets, in which the Americans were victorious.

On December 15, 1943, Cpl. Charles Reasoner was reported by the War Department as killed in action in Leyte, Philippine, at the age of 22.

In 1945, the American Legion Post 238 in Holt rededicated their charter to honor yet another fallen soldier. Thus, the John Buck American Legion Post 238 became the Buck-Reasoner Post 238 in honor of both John H. Buck and Cpl. Charles Reasoner.

Cpl. Charles Reasoner was survived by his parents, B.M. 1-C Lorenzo Gale Reasoner and Margaret (Dyer) Reasoner, and a sister, Noris Reasoner. Also surviving was his wife, Charlotte E. (Moore) Reasoner, and a daughter, Constance Louise Reasoner, whom he never saw.

Cpl. Charles Reasoner's remains were finally laid to rest in the Maple Ridge Cemetery in Holt, Michigan on September 25, 1948, Lot #214, Grave #3, with members from the Buck-Reasoner Post 238 providing military honors.

John Hiriam Buck was born October 3, 1891 in Delhi Township, Michigan, where he resided until he enlisted with the Lansing Batteries in 1915, going with them to the Mexican border and returning with them to Grayling, and later returning to Waco, Texas. Eventually, Mr. Buck joined the 119^th Field Artillery as a Saddler in the Supply Company, which ultimately took him to France.

John Buck was reported by the War Department as being killed in action during the Chateau Thierry, France, on September 1, 1918, at the age of 26. Memorial services were held at the Grovenburg Church on Sunday, September 29, 1918.

In 1940, the American Legion Post 238 in Holt dedicated their charter in honor of John Buck, naming the Post John Buck American Legion Post 238.

John H. Buck was survived by his parents, John H. Buck, Sr., and Effie Luella (Gunn) Buck of Delhi Township. Also surviving were four brothers and two sisters, George J. Buck, Susan Maria Buck, Arthur E. Buck, Homer A. Buck, Theta M. Buck, Daniel L. Buck, and Benjamin B. Buck. John H. Buck never married.

John H. Buck's remains were finally laid to rest in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Mason, Michigan on Monday, May 23, 1921, Lot #1345, Section L, Plot #5. Members of the 119^th Field Artillery, the National Guard and the American Legion provided military honors.

As of June 1, 2006, Buck-Reasoner American Legion Post 238 has 390 members; 338 of those paid.
